Mobile browser.


A mobile browser, also called a microbrowser, minibrowser or wireless internet browser (WIB), is a web browser designed for use on a mobile device such as a mobile phone or PDA. Mobile browsers are optimized so as to display Web content most effectively for small screens on portable devices. Mobile browser software must be small and efficient to accommodate the low memory capacity and low-bandwidth of wireless handheld devices. Typically they were stripped-down web browsers, but as of 2006 some mobile browsers can handle more recent technologies like CSS 2.1, JavaScript and Ajax. Websites designed for access from these browsers are referred to as wireless portals.

From Chimera to Camino.


Camino (Spanish “path”) is a free, open source, GUI-based Web browser based on Mozilla’s Gecko layout engine and specially designed for the Apple’s Mac OS X operating system. In place of an XUL-based user interface used by most Mozilla-based applications, Camino uses Mac-native Cocoa APIs.

Wild, wild Safari.

Safari is a graphical web browser produced by Apple and included as part of the Mac OS X operating system. First released as a public beta on January 7, 2003 on the company’s Mac OS X operating system, it became Apple’s native browser beginning with Mac OS X v10.3 “Panther”. It is also the default browser for the iOS. A version of Safari for the Microsoft Windows operating system, first represented  on June 11, 2007, supports Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7.

Amaya&Arena.

Amaya (initially Amaya World)  is a free and open source WYSIWYG web authoring instrument with browsing abilities, created by a structured editor project at the INRIA, a French national research institution, and later adopted by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). Amaya is exploited as a testbed for web standards and replaced the Arena web browser.

Strange pett – SeaMonkey.

SeaMonkey is a free and open source cross-platform Internet browser. It is the follower of the former Mozilla Application Suite, based on the same source code. Core Mozilla project basic code is licensed under a disjunctive tri-license that gives the choice of one of the three next sets of licensing terms: Mozilla Public License, version 1.1 or later, GNU General Public License, version 2.0 or later, GNU Lesser General Public License, version 2.1 or later.

Chrome. Google it!

Google Chrome is a web browser provided by Google that uses the WebKit layout engine and application structure. It was initially released as a beta version for Microsoft Windows on 2 September 2008, and the public stable release was on 11 December 2008. The name is derived from the graphical user interface frame, or “chrome”, of web browsers. As of July 2010, Chrome was the third most used browser worldwide, with 7.16% of world usage share of web browsers, according to Net Applications.

Pretty FireFox.

Mozilla Firefox is a free and open source browser produced by Mozilla Corporation. As of July 2010, Firefox was the second most used browser worldwide, with 22.91% of worldwide usage share of web browsers, according to Net Applications. Other sources put Firefox’s usage share between 20% and 32%. To display web pages, Firefox uses the Gecko layout engine, which implements most current web standards in addition to several features which are intended to anticipate likely additions to the standards.

The Phantom of the Opera…

Opera is a web browser and Internet suite developed by Opera Software. The browser handles common Internet-related tasks such as displaying web sites, sending and receiving e-mail messages, managing contacts, chatting on IRC, downloading files via BitTorrent, and reading web feeds. Opera is offered free of charge for personal computers and mobile phones. Features include tabbed browsing, page zooming, mouse gestures, and an integrated download manager. Its security features include built-in phishing and malware protection, strong encryption when browsing secure websites, and the ability to easily delete private data such as HTTP cookies.

The last episode.

Mozilla created Firefox 3.0 on 17 June 2008, with performance upgrades, and other new features. Firefox 3.5  followed on 30 June 2009 with further performance improvements, native integration of audio and video, and more privacy options. Google released Chrome browser for Microsoft Windows on December 11, 2008, using the same WebKit rendering method as Safari and claiming a faster JavaScript engine called V8. An open version for the Windows, Mac OS X and Linux platforms was released under the name Chromium. According to Net Applications, Chrome had gained a 3.6% usage share by October 2009. After the release of the beta for Mac OS X and Linux, the market share had increased rapidly.
